How To Make Your Own Clip Art by Hand

Even if you aren't the best artist in the world it still can be a fun, easy and rewarding to create your own clip art to use for not just websites but for documents, greeting cards and presentations. You can use a graphics program such as Photoshop or something similar to add a variety of dimensions as well as a professional look to anything thing that you have hand drawn.

When making your own hand drawn clipart you will need to take some white paper and draw a picture on it with a think pen, preferably a black one. Make sure that when you are drawing your clip art that you press down on the paper quite firmly and make sure you have no gaps where any of the lines come to meet.

Next thing you will want to do is take some colored markers and color in your clip art picture. Make sure that the colors you use are dark and bold colors. If you don't want to use markers, you can skip this step and wait till later and use a graphics program to color in the picture.

Once you are happy with your original hand drawn clip art you are going to want to scan the drawing onto your computer. You can adjust the brightness as well as the contrast of the scanner by using the software that is part of the scanners program. Once you are satisfied just “Save as” and give the image a name and then uses the file type “.gif” or “.jpg”.

Once the drawing is scanned onto your computer it is time to open up Photoshop or whatever graphics program you have on your computer. You will click on the “Magic Wand” tool and then pick the white part of the drawing. Click “Select” from the menu and then click “Similar.”

Once you have done that you will then click on “Select” again and pick “Inverse.” Next go to your edit menu and pick “Copy” then pick “Paste.” This is going to create a layer for your drawing that is on a background that will be transparent.

Now pick the area you want to color with the “Magic Wand.” Pick a color as well as a gradient you want and then apply this to each part of the image you want to add it to. You can then add new layers to create blur, shadows or various other effects you want to apply to your clipart.

Once the clip art is done you can put it in a document by picking “Insert” from your applications menu, Publisher would be an example or you can insert into Word or into your web page software that you might have on your computer. Pick “Picture” and “From File.” Just browse the folder you put your clipart image in then click the picture, choose “Insert” and then simply adjust the size to however big or small you want it to be.

It doesn't get much simpler than that when it comes to creating simple and easy clipart for your documents, presentations or website.

Hello, just wanted to share with you that we had a great vacation at Marina de Bolnuevo in September of this year ( We flew into Alicante and hired a car from the airport for the short drive to Bolnuevo. The beaches are sublime, most of them awarded the Blue Flag. The cafes were great, with paella on the beach a must and managed a day on the nudist beach there. Very liberating. We also visited the Big Guns, The Roman Mines and the Sand sculptures. Will be returning there again in 2018. Look forward to seeing you at Marina de Bolnuevo in the next few months. Thanks for reading Tony.

Hey I am doing a paper on this specific topic. What was the most valuable source when you do your research? Is there some way I could send you an email and you could give me some hints on where to start my research? This was very useful! Jennifer-
